About

On October 22, 1992, Fredericksburg Dance Matrix Company had it’s first Gala Premiere performance at the the Downtown Library Theater. This was the beginning of an arts organization that functioned consistantly for 34 years. Bringing together adult dancers, actors and musicians to share the stage.

In the 1994 Town & Country magazine said, “They are mothers, teachers and bartenders. They are actors and students. But most of all, they are dancers.”

Performances included: Dodd Auditorium, Germanna Community College, Dance Place, Even & Arts, Old Walker Grant School, Danville Arts Festival, Dorothy Hart Community Center, Franklin Park Arts Center, The Old Silk Mill, Windmere Performing Arts Center, The CRRL Theater, area nursing homes and several elementary and middle schools. The Company was honored to perform at the Fredericksburg First Night Festival for 7 years!

After a short hiatus the company returned with a new name and a new 501c3 tax status and Dance Matrix & Company was born.

Re-emerging as a non-profit in January 2017, DMC expanded to be a performing arts production company. We have produced 8 Performing Arts Festivals in Fredericksburg, VA, given benefit performances for The Fairy Godmother Project, The SPCA, Empowerhouse, Downtown Greens, the Friends of the Rappahannock, Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank, Loisann’s Hope House, The ASK Childhood Cancer Foundation, Parks and Recreation Senior Citizens group, The Boys & Girls Club, and the Children’s Hospital of Richmond.

Since 2017 we have supported over 125 individual Professional Performing Artists and Companies. Many of them return to perform with us multiple times. We support all performing arts schools and have offered performance opportunities to many students, and their home studios.

Our hope is to be a part of the vibrant arts community in the area. Dance, as an art form, has been largely forgotten in the fast paced corporate dance world of studios and competitions. Dance is the oldest form of expression on the planet and belongs to us all! If you love to dance, you might consider joining us!
